No Quarter For Vista
...have you actually used Vista?
Unlike XP, Vista offers NO groundbreaking new features that consumers are asking for. XP allowed both businesses and homes to take advantage of user-level file security, join Active Directory domains (BIG step forward), and a host of new functions which were absent in Windows 9x, like performance tuning and system restore. Compare this to Vista, which scrapped the cool features it was intending to implement like a new file system and truly quicker file searches - all despite spending a ridiculous amount of time developing what is still a shamefully unstable OS.
We can't also ignore the confusing naming scheme for different versions of the OS, all of which utilize generic "value-based" terms and do little to explain the actual difference between them. Compare this to "Home", "Professional" (read: business), and later "Media Center" (self-explanatory).
And is DirectX10 support supposed to be a selling feature? Considering that for the moment DirectX10 has markedly shitty performance compared to DX9, i'm going to guess not.
Aero interface? "Gadgets"? All the "new" interface designs are a flagrant rip-off of Mac OSX features. I'll just use my Mac, thanks - their interface is a lot nicer to look at it and a lot easier to use than all this ribbon bullshit that I don't recall anyone asking for, yet Microsoft has deemed fit to force it down our throats.
Oh, and any worthwhile feature of Vista could have easily been implemented in XP as part of a future Service Pack, but that doesn't yield enough dollars to keep Microsoft happy.
